There are the following types of membership: Honorary and Life Fellows, Sustaining Fellows, Fellows, Associate Fellows and Student Fellows.

Membership is by nomination and election at an Ordinary Meeting of the Society.

- broadening of one’s understanding of other disciplines by attending meetings which provide an opportunity to converse with other scientists
- opportunity to inform other scientists from different fields about your special field by presenting lectures at the Society’s meetings and Symposia and by publishing in the Transactions
- belonging to a venerable and prestigious South Australian institution whose past members include Wilson, Bragg and Mawson
- becoming eligible to have your research nominated for the prestigious Verco Medal
- receiving the Transactions.
